In a time when trends dominate and content often feels manufactured, I wanted to do something different with my latest release, Hot Blooded. This track isn’t just another song—it’s a testament to authenticity, dedication, and the belief that musicians can and should do more than just chase fame.
When we recorded Hot Blooded at Pacific Beat Studios in San Diego, CA, the focus wasn’t on gimmicks or flashy production. Instead, it was about capturing raw energy—the sound of musicians in their element, vibing off each other in real time. That’s why I’ve chosen to release multiple versions of the song on YouTube, including unfiltered studio footage. Watching the band create in the studio shows the real heart of music-making, something I think is too often lost in a world of lip-synced performances and TikTok trends.
For me, music isn’t about following the latest algorithm; it’s about creating something that has its own identity. Hot Blooded is bold, energetic, and unapologetically unique. It’s a track that combines the swagger of rock with the grit of a story, all while staying true to the essence of what inspired me to become a musician in the first place.
This release has been a long time coming. Like many others, COVID put a pause on my plans. Then came a big life change—I moved across the country, from San Diego to North Carolina, and spent time getting rooted here. It’s been a journey, but I’m finally ready to share my music on Spotify and other platforms, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Beyond the music, I’ve always believed that artists should strive for more. There’s a stereotype of the rock star who drops out of college and rebels against society, but I want to challenge that. Musicians can be multi-faceted—we can create art while also contributing to the world around us. For me, that means balancing my music with my passion for medicine as I pursue a career as a Physician Assistant.
Hot Blooded is more than just a release. It’s a reminder of what rock ‘n’ roll was always supposed to be: raw, real, and unapologetically honest. A pure statement. A feeling. Thank you for joining me on this journey—I hope this song speaks to you the way creating it has spoken to me.
Stay tuned for more music, more stories, and more reasons to believe in the power of real art.
Cheers,
Philip James
